Gohana, Haryana — Fresno County authorities are searching for Sumer Singh, a 41‑year‑old defendant who fled the United States after multiple court appearances and now faces active warrants in four separate criminal cases, according to Superior Court records.
Singh, born November 20, 1982, was charged in several felony and misdemeanor cases between 2024 and 2025, including vehicle theft, receiving stolen property, domestic violence, and contempt of court. Court documents show he was initially released on a $150,000 surety bond, but later failed to appear, triggering forfeiture of the bond and issuance of bench warrants.
A Pattern of Delays Followed by Flight
Felony Case F24903805 — Vehicle Theft, Receiving Stolen Property, and Contempt of Court
Singh was arrested on May 30, 2024, and charged with:
- VC 10851(a) — Unlawful taking or driving of a vehicle
- PC 496d(a) — Receiving stolen property (motor vehicle)
- PC 166(c)(1) — Contempt of court
These charges are documented in the June 4, 2024 arraignment minutes, which confirm Singh entered not guilty pleas and was placed under a Criminal Protective Order.
“Not Guilty plea entered as to count 001… Not Guilty plea entered as to count 002… Not Guilty plea entered as to count 003.”
Over the next year, Singh repeatedly requested continuances through his attorneys. The court granted multiple delays, and Singh remained free on the surety bond.
On July 21, 2025, Singh failed to appear for a scheduled hearing. The court immediately ordered:
“Surety Bond Forfeited… Warrant Ordered Issued… Amount: $150,000.00.”
A formal Notice of Order Forfeiting Bail was mailed the same day.
Misdemeanor Case M25905476 — Contempt of Court
In a separate case, Singh was charged with PC 166(c)(1) for violating a protective order on September 14, 2024.
“The crime of CONTEMPT OF COURT… was committed by Sumer Singh, who did unlawfully commit contempt of court by willful disobedience of a protective order.”
He appeared for a June 2, 2025 hearing but failed to appear at the July 21, 2025 pre‑trial hearing. The court revoked his release and issued a $20,000 bench warrant.
“Court orders Defendant Own Recognizance status revoked. Warrant Ordered Issued… Amount: $20,000.00.”
Evidence Suggests Singh Fled to India
Documents include Singh’s Air India travel certificate, confirming he departed the United States on July 9, 2025, flying from San Francisco to New Delhi on Flight AI 174.
“This is to certify that Sumer Singh has travelled… AI 174… 09 Jul 2025… San Francisco to New Delhi.”
This travel occurred twelve days before his missed July 21, 2025 hearing in the felony case, indicating he left the country while still under court order to appear.
A letter addressed to government officials alleges Singh “fled the United States to India” and requests verification of his arrival and passport records.
“We suspect that Sumer Singh has fled from the United States to India… We are requesting the date of arrival… and copy of his passport with arrival stamp.”
Bail Bond Extension and Forfeiture
The bail bond company, Rama Dawar Bail Bonds, sought additional time to locate Singh. On February 26, 2026, the Fresno County Superior Court granted a 180‑day extension under Penal Code §1305.4.
“GOOD CAUSE appearing a 180‑day extension is granted.”
Despite this extension, Singh remains a fugitive.
