The cases of rapes followed by murders are alarmingly rising in Asia. High profile officials are often indulged in these criminal acts and are never caught. Usually, the modus operandi either involves murder of the victims or kidnappings. The victims in cases like these also end up committing suicides or go missing.
In a recent case that was highlighted, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Nishikant More of Maharashtra police has been accused of sexual harassment by a 17 yrs. old girl who has gone missing since Monday night.
According to the family of the girl, she has left behind a suicide note. The girl’s father told “My girl went to college on Monday; she said somebody met her there and took her number as well and when she came back from her college, she directly went to sleep and had gone missing from the next morning”. He said that his daughter left behind a suicide note, “in which she said that she is tired of the DIG and wants to die”.
“Police said that she was caught on CCTV camera leaving the house at around 11:30 pm voluntarily. According to the missing girl’s father, If the police want, they can find my daughter in no time. But they are not working to find out my daughter. They are not even taking action against the DIG because he is a high-ranked police officer of the department,” he alleged. He also urged and begged the chief minister to take cognisance of the matter. “We don’t have any security either. Anyone can hurt us. Our family is very uncertain about our future. We don’t know what will happen tomorrow,” father of the missing girl added. Facing molestation charges, DIG More was suspended on Thursday afternoon by the administration and government of Maharashtra.
A criminal case was registered against Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Nishikant More on December 26 last month under relevant sections. The alleged molestation took place at the birthday party of the minor girl. Maharashtra’s Home Minister, Anil Deshmukh decided to take disciplinary action against Nishikant More after a report regarding the same was submitted by Director General of Maharashtra Police.
In another development, Panvel court rejected Nishikant More’s arrest bail application. Shocking developments in the case have come to light after registration of the offence since Monday. The girl from Navi Mumbai who filed a molestation case is missing, and girl’s brother also made accusations that that their family was threatened by a constable who was once posted with the DIG. Constable identified as Dinkar Salve.
When closely studied by our expert team, there were many cases that came up and are still pending against the high-ranked police officers of the government of India and other officers, who are just state police officers. The cases include several high-profile officials, who were involved in sexual exploitation of minor girls and were never charged.
Shivani Bhatnagar, a journalist with the Indian Express, was stabbed and strangled in her Delhi apartment on January 23, 1999. Ravi Kant Sharma, a senior IPS officer of the Haryana cadre became the prime accused in the case. He went into hiding for about two months, but later surrendered to the Delhi Police. The case became one of the most high-profile murder cases ever, with the name of even a central government minister cropping up during the course of its media life. Sharma’s wife, Madhu, accused BJP leader Pramod Mahajan of being the conspirator behind the murder.
The list of these cases is endless. The theory and thought process of offenders in these cases is gruesome. The experts say that the psychology behind rape is complex, and researchers have different hypotheses about what goes on in the minds of a rapists.
Otterbein University psychology professor Norm Shpancer detailed evolutionary psychology reasons for why men rape women. Shpancer said men tend to be physically stronger by genetic design; therefore, they rape because they can. “All of us behave in scripted ways in many areas of our lives, including sex,” Shpancer told the Daily Universe. “Our scripts are shaped in part by biology, in part by society and in part through our own experiences.”
Acts of sex and violence share the hormone testosterone, and so the two are biologically linked. Primeval men were “rewarded” for aggression by gaining access to women and protecting them from other males. This may have caused sexual aggressive impulses in men to be passed down through generations, according to Shpancer. This does not excuse sexual assault, however, as men have control over these urges. Social pressure and culture tend to have greater influence over people’s behaviour than genetics or biology, according to Shpancer.
According to another psychologist Dr. Rama Kant Dawar, Ph. D. these molestations are a creation of sick minded people and these people don’t belong to the society these people need counselling and should be isolated from the general public. According to Dr. Rama Kant Dawar that these high ranked people need to be evaluated psychologically and their past history need to be evaluated before hiring them for such a high-ranked position even they pass their IPS tests or recruited for the positions. Child molestation is not acceptable at all according to Dr. Dawar. If these cases are read and forgotten about there would be no change taking place. The creamy layers and high-profile officials often escape from their dirt, which sets an ugly example to the society.
