During the current elections in Afghanistan towards securing its democracy and coming out against the terrorism and securing worlds peace grants people of Afghanistan has secured 50.6 percent of the preliminary vote count in favor of President Ashraf Ghani, who has won a second term during this election. The announcement was made by Hawa Alam Nuristani, chairwoman of the Independent Election Commission during a press conference on December 22 in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan.
Ghani’s main challenger, Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, won 39.5 percent of the vote and was beaten out by him by a big marginal vote count.
Results for the September 28 presidential poll have been repeatedly delayed amid accusations of misconduct and technical problems with counting ballots. Abdullah agreed earlier in December to allow a ballot recount in provinces where his supporters had stopped the process for more than a month.
Ashraf Ghani, is lovingly denoted as Ghani Baba (father) by his supporters for his dream to rebuild the country fighting against the terrorism, Taliban, fighting against the drug lords, womanizing, smuggling the girls of Afghanistan to Middle East Sheikhs and fighting for democracy and human rights including rights of women.
Born in Afghanistan’s Logar province, the 70-year-old, politician, academic, economist and former World Bank employee, is an ethnic Pashtun belonging to Ahmadzai tribe.
It is considerable that in 2014, Ghani and former foreign minister Abdullah Abdullah failed to garner more than 50 percent of the vote and the election went into a runoff.
However, with the polls largely disputed with accusations of ballot fraud and tampering, US Secretary of State John Kerry intervened and suggested for a power-sharing government. Both the leaders don’t have any other choice except to listen the US government, because a big financial aid comes from the United States for this impoverished country and both the leaders agreed to follow the suggestions and instructions of the government of the United States of America.
Ghani was declared the new president while Abdullah became Chief Executive Officer of the country. During his tenure, Ghani brought warlord Gulbuddin Hekmatyar of Hezb-i-Islami back to Afghanistan after signing a peace deal which resulted in the UN sanctions against him being dropped, which is big peace negotiation towards bringing peace in the country.
Ghani has repeatedly called on the Taliban to come to the negotiating table and also offered the group to form a legitimate political party. But the Taliban has repeatedly refused to negotiate with the government and called it the puppet of the US. In 2001 it was Taliban, who destroyed and demolished the twin towers of the United States, which was a terrorist act, and the Taliban also killed many women, who didn’t abide with the Shriya Law. World leaders also think that Taliban terrorist group is also involved and partnered with the Nigerian terrorists and baby factories in Nigeria.
Abdullah, who currently serves as the country’s chief executive officer in-charge and in office in a fragile national unity government, has repeatedly accused the vote of being marked by fraud and technical difficulties.
“We would like to make it clear once again to our people, supporters, the election commission and our international allies that our team will not accept the results of this fraudulent vote unless our legitimate demands are addressed,” his office said in a statement made on Friday in Kabul, Afghanistan to the media and international press. The challenge could delay final results by several weeks and further delays will take place in implementing the storage of power to the presidential office.
If the preliminary results are held and not challenged and are it will give Ghani the authority he has been seeking for long as a sole leader in peace talks with the Taliban. Until now, he and his government have been sidelined over the last year of direct talks between the US and the Taliban. Washington seeks to withdraw its troops and bring to an end its longest war against terrorism in Afghanistan, ending 18 years of fighting in Afghanistan. The United States has spent trillions of dollars against terrorism and restoring peace including on its troops in Afghanistan in last 18 years and is currently spending as well. It is considerable that people of the United States are against this spending, because the U. S. Government has borrowed money from the Social Security Department to spend in Afghanistan. The outcry of U. S. Citizens is against borrowing money is that the money borrowed from Social Security is a reserve account money that is for the citizens of the United States’ work force towards their retirement and people are concerned that what will happen when they will retire and there will no money for their retirement and Medicare. Baby boomers are not only concerned about their retirement benefits, but also concerned about their health care system after their retirements.
It’s not clear how the Taliban will respond to Ghani’s win. Ghani has been demanding a cease fire before engaging in talks, something the Taliban have consistently refused. Afghanistan’s people also look for the further financial assistance from the UNO and mainly the United States. But currently it seems that Ghani will assume the office of president of Afghanistan.
